ITIN vs. EIN: what is the difference?
They serve very different purposes.
An EIN identifies your business to the IRS, while an ITIN identifies an individual who isn't eligible for a Social Security Number but still needs to file US taxes.
Many foreign founders need both — an EIN for the company, and an ITIN so they personally can file the returns tied to their ownership.
